State Road 429 (Daniel Webster Parkway) is a major artery in and out of the Horizon West area. This limited access road delivers traffic to HW via the SR 535, Schofield Road, New Independence Parkway and Seidel Road interchanges. SR 535, being the busiest of these interchanges, recently received an upgraded southbound exit lane to allow more room for cars to queue for the exit. Coming some time later this year, the Orange Osceola Expressway authority is set to start construction to upgrade the northbound on ramp. No plans have been released, but I expect them to extend the entrance ramp to allow for easier merge onto northbound SR 429.
In addition to a new on ramp at 535, SR 429 will be getting a face lift from SR 535 to Seidel Road. OOCEA will be milling and resurfacing the 8.4 mile stretch starting later this year and completing some time in 2017. Look for delays while this construction is under progress. Again, no contract has be sent for bidding, so details and dates are only preliminary based on OOCEA’s 5 year construction plan.
Finally, there has been rumors of a southbound off ramp and a northbound on ramp at Siedel Road being added. After researching both OOCEA and the Turnpike Authority’s websites, I have found no reference to these ramps being mentioned in their 10 and 30 year construction plans. Siedel Road is the border of the Turnpike Authority’s section (Seidel Road south) and OOCEA’s section (Seidel Road north). So for the foreseeable future you will either need to travel up to New Independence Parkway or SR 535 to gain access to SR 429 north.
